eSIM Internet Connection Issue Solution Guide for iOS & Android Devices

eSIM connected but no internet? Start here

You have installed your eSIM, you have landed, and... nothing. No internet. Do not worry - in almost every case this is a small settings issue, not a broken eSIM. This guide walks you through the checks one by one, from the most common fix to the least common.

Before you dive into the detailed steps below, run this 30-second checklist:

  • Airplane mode is off (or on and off again to force a fresh network search)
  • The eSIM line is turned on in your phone settings
  • The eSIM is selected as your mobile data source
  • Data roaming is enabled for the eSIM (yes, it needs to be on - more on that below)
  • Your plan still has data left and has not expired

If the quick checklist did not help, pick your device below and follow the steps in order.

Is the eSIM turned on and selected for mobile data?

On Android, an installed eSIM can sit there switched off, or your phone may still be routing data through your home SIM. Let us check both.

  • Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs
  • Tap your travel eSIM
  • Make sure Use SIM is switched on
  • On the same screen, turn on Mobile data (it may be labeled Use this SIM for mobile data)
  • On Samsung devices the path is Settings > Connections > SIM manager: turn the eSIM on there and set it as the preferred SIM for Mobile data

Android menus vary a bit between brands, but the logic is always the same: the eSIM must be enabled, and it must be the SIM chosen for data.

Is Data Roaming on for the eSIM?

Just like on iPhone, a travel eSIM connects to local networks in roaming mode. If roaming is off for the eSIM, you will see signal bars but no internet. Turning it on does not add any extra cost - your plan already covers this traffic.

  • Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs
  • Tap your travel eSIM
  • Switch Roaming (or Data roaming) on
  • On Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Data roaming, make sure it is on for the eSIM
  • Give the phone a minute to register on the network

Enable roaming only for the travel eSIM, not for your home SIM.

Try selecting the network manually

If your phone connected to a network your eSIM does not support, or keeps endlessly searching, choose the network yourself.

  • Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs and tap your travel eSIM
  • Turn off Automatically select network
  • Wait 1-2 minutes while your phone scans for networks
  • Select one of the operators your plan supports - the list is in your plan details in your account
  • If it will not connect, go back and try another supported network
  • On Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators > turn off Select automatically, then pick from the list

Check the APN settings

The APN tells the network how to route your data. It is usually set up automatically with the eSIM, but on some Android devices it needs a nudge.

  • Open Settings > Network & internet > SIMs and tap your travel eSIM
  • Tap Access Point Names
  • Check whether the APN from your plan details is in the list and selected
  • If it is missing, tap + (Add), enter the APN name exactly as shown in your plan details, leave the other fields as they are, then save and select it
  • On Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names
  • Toggle Airplane mode on and off afterwards to reconnect

Still nothing? Restart your phone

It sounds too simple, but a restart genuinely fixes a lot of eSIM issues. It forces the phone to re-register on the network with all your new settings applied.

  • Turn the phone fully off, wait about 30 seconds, then turn it back on
  • After it boots, give it 1-2 minutes to find and register on the network
  • If a full restart feels like too much, at least toggle Airplane mode on, wait 10 seconds, and turn it off - this forces a fresh network search

A restart is especially worth trying right after you change roaming, network selection, or APN settings.

Important: do not delete the eSIM from your phone

Whatever you do while troubleshooting, do not delete the eSIM profile. Each QR code we issue is one-time only: once the eSIM has been installed, the same QR code cannot be scanned again. If you remove the profile from your phone, it cannot be restored, and the remaining data on that plan is lost.

So the usual reinstall reflex (delete it and add it again) does not apply to eSIMs. Instead:

  • Work through the settings checks above - they solve the vast majority of connection issues
  • Restart the phone rather than removing the profile
  • If nothing helps, contact our support before touching the delete button - we will help you figure it out

The same goes for phone resets: a factory reset wipes installed eSIMs, so avoid it while your plan is active.

Check your plan: data left and validity

If everything is set up correctly and the internet still does not work (or suddenly stopped working after being fine), the plan itself may be the reason.

  • Log in to your account on our website and open your plan details
  • Check how much data is left - once the data allowance is used up, the connection stops or slows down, depending on the plan
  • Check the validity period - plans expire after a set number of days, usually counted from activation
  • Make sure you are in a country your plan covers - a plan for one country or region will not work outside it

If the plan has run out, you can simply buy a new one in your account and install it on the spot - and if something looks wrong, message our support and we will sort it out together.
